Ralph Waterhouse was born in England in 1943 and began a professional painting career in 1973. He painted wildlife subjects in natural environment and had work published in the1980s in the United Kingdom by the Royal Society for Protection of Birds and the World Wildlife Fund. He emigrated to the United States in the mid 1980s and began painting landscapes en plein air. He opened a gallery in Santa Barbara in 1989. In the same year Waterhouse's twenty year old son from his first marriage died. In the process of healing, Waterhouse found himself spending more time out of the studio painting plein-air landscapes. He is a member of the California Art Club (Central Coast Chapter Chairman), and President of the Santa Barbara Art Dealers Association. A major painting was purchased in 2002 by the Santa Barbara Historical Society for their permanent collection. Two paintings were included in the Rain Forest Exhibition, London, England 2002. |
