Description |
By the time of his death in 1957 at the age of 93, John Gamble was viewed as "the dean of Santa Barbara artists." He and Clarence Mattei became close friends and shared a studio for a time in Santa Barbara. Gamble was an acclaimed landscape painter, especially known for his canvases of wildflowers. As consultant to the city, he painted the background scenes behind the Spanish village in the interior of the Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbara's magnificent movie palace. |
