Description |
Women living in towns and cities in the mid-19th century and of high enough economic standing could partake in the latest of fashions. During this period, that meant a tight bodice with a long flounced skirt. This is a two-piece Trousseau gown of green taffeta with pattern strips of cotton. The caged hoop skirt became increasingly popular in the late 1850s and into the 1860s. Taken all together, the result was the "hour-glass figure." This piece was purchased in New York City by the grandmother of the donor. |
